GESTURE RECOGNITION
An embedded sensing system that enables dynamic conversations between costumed character performers and guests.
Costumed characters connect park guests to the story worlds of Disney theme parks in a living, interactive way. Michael led a team to develop, test, and deliver the first generation of an EMBEDDED SYSTEM and accompanying CREATIVE TOOLS for allowing character performers to intuitively and discreetly operate a conversation engine, in order TO DELIVER BELIEVABLE IN-CHARACTER DIALOGUE for enhanced guest-character interactions.
This system is currently IN USE IN MOST DISNEY PARKS AND ALL DISNEY CRUISE SHIPS WORLDWIDE. As part of initial public-facing tests, Michael co-led stakeholder engagement among park and Imagineering leadership, educated sustaining writers and trainers who would inherit the system, directed character performers, wrote dialogue, and provided the voice for the prototype character - an original trilogy Star Wars Stormtrooper.
